Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge to launch in India on 23rd March - Rumored Pricing and Release date

India is one of Samsung's major strongholds, and Samsung certainly wants it to stay that way. That's why India is usually among the first countries to get a taste of their latest offerings. Samsung is gearing up for the launch of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge in India on 23rd March, within just weeks of the first time the world had witnessed the device at MWC 2015.

Samsung has finally shifted from plastic to metal in its latest launches in the Galaxy S lineup. Though we have already seen metal being used by Samsung (Galaxy A series, we are looking at you), the Galaxy S lineup has been Samsung's flag-bearer since the Galaxy S2 days.

Samsung's declining market share and profits in the last few quarters isn't a secret. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are currently the Korean smartphone giant's best shot in making a comeback and that is why, Samsung seems to have a put a lot of thought in the new additions to the Galaxy S lineup.

Compared to the Galaxy S5, the Galaxy S6 has the same display size with a significantly bumped-up display resolution (577 pixels per inch, vs 432 ppi). Corning Gorilla Glass 4 promises a better protection against scratches and accidental drops. The phone trims down its thickness to 6.8 mm, just 0.1 mm thin than the Apple iPhone 6, which is going to be the phone's main competition. On the camera front, Optical Image Stabilization has found its way onto the Galaxy S6, while the megapixel count stays the same as its predecessor. While the internal storage is now  (up to) 128 GB, Samsung has removed the much loved micro sd card slot from its Galaxy S lineup.

The Galaxy S6 Edge is the Galaxy S6 with a dual edge display and a slightly faster processor (in terms of clock speed). Apart from that, every other specifications is exactly the same on both the devices. Whether Samsung is able to find some real use for the dual curved edges, besides its cool factor, should decide whether one should add in the extra money to go for the S6 Edge instead of the S6.

All in all, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge seems to be pretty good, at least on paper. Samsung has started sending out invites to bloggers for a Samsung Galaxy S6 Blog-a-thon event, which will be held in Delhi on 23rd March. We shall post our hands-on experience with the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge in the coming days.

The launch day will also reveal the pricing information of both the devices. According to Sammobile, Europe pricing will be 699 (Rs. 47,100) for the 32 GB Samsung Galaxy S6 and 849 (Rs. 57,200) for the 32 GB Galaxy S6 Edge. So, an equivalent pricing strategy in India can see the phones being launched around Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 60,000 mark, for Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge respectively. As per iGyaan, the phones might be released on April 10, the same day as others.
