Gionee Elife S5.5, the world's slimmest smartphone, has received an official Android 4. KitKat update. The update was announced on the Gionee India Facebook page. Apart from Elife S5.5, KitKat update for Ctrl V5 has been released and updates for Gionee M2, Pioneer P4 and Elife E7, among others, are scheduled to be made availabel within a month or two.
Gionee handsets generally run on a heavily modified version of the Android OS, with Gionee even coining out a name for it - Amigo OS. The Amigo OS that came installed on the Elife S5.5 was based on Android 4.2, and the updated Amigo OS will be based on the latest (stable) Android version i.e. Android 4.4 KitKat.
The update process is really simple. Before starting out, make sure you have a good internet connection and enough battery juice left. Once you ensure that, just head on to Settings, tap the About Phone option, then the System Updates option and once there, tap the Check for Updates button. If you see a message saying no update is available, then you might need to wait a day or two as OTA (over the air) updates sometime take some time to reach all users. Otherwise, start the download and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.
If new entrants like Gionee want to make any impact in the Indian smartphone market, regular software updates with solutions to problems/bugs that user point out, along with reliable support centers hold the key. And thus, Gionee seems to be moving forward in the right direction.
Though the update process can't get any simpler, if you face any problems or have any questions regarding the update, voice your questions in the comments section below and we shall try to help you out. Otherwise, update your Elife S5.5 and share this story with your social media friends to let them know of the same.
