[Exclusive] How to get Rs. 130 free recharge an infinite number of times, using Line

Line India is at it again. They ran an offer from 1st June to 30th June (which was later extended by 10 days), under which, sending at least 1 message to any of your Line friends for 25 days provided recharges worth Rs. 110. This time, they've bettered the offer. Sending a sticker daily to any Line friends for 25 days will get all Line users recharges worth Rs. 130.

Link to recharge a mobile number for an amount of Rs. 10, Rs. 30, Rs. 30, Rs. 30 and Rs. 30 are sent after every 5 days of sending a sticker. What Line wants to achieve here by doing this is quiet imminent, to get the users talking and to probably get them to shift from Whatsapp. However, we, being Indians, love everything that's free and try to get as much of that free stuff as possible. So, I ended up with this trick which lends me unlimited mobile recharges (unlimited is actually equal to how many mobile numbers you can get a verification code from).

The special thing about the offer Line provides is that, these recharges work on a number even multiple times, thus making it possible to use your friend's number to register on Line and then when the link to recharge comes, use it to recharge your own!

Requirements to get this trick working:

  • Any Android device/iPhone
  • Lot of velle SIM cards (or asking verification codes from your relatives/friends)
  • Titanium Backup Pro app (if you are going with the method for Rooted Android devices)

For unrooted Android devices or an iPhone:

I guess the really desperate ones among us would've devised this way already. For others, here's how to do it.
  1. Install Line app on your smartphone from the Play store or App Store.
  2. Open Line and enter your phone number.
  3. When you receive the verification code, enter it in the app. Depending on whether you've registered this number on Line, you will have to get through a few steps. Unless you intend to use Line as your go-to messenger, skip as many of these steps as possible, like, select Register later in the screen where it asks for your Email address.
  4. Allow it to auto-add friends from your contacts list. Now if you're not some weird loner, you should've a few friends using the Line app already. Send any of these friends, a sticker (by pressing the smiley button on the left of the field where you type your message) of your choice.
  5. If you are a loner and have 0 friends using Line, add a random friend first. To do that, go to the Add friend option and select search by id. In the search field, search for some common first name and add that person as a Line friend. Now, send him/her a sticker.
  6. The teddy bear kinda toon, on the conversations tab, should now say 4 days to go. If it doesn't, be patient for a few seconds.
  7. Now, if you want to get recharges worth Rs. 130 only. You can quit. Else, go to the App description (Settings > Apps > All > Line) and select the Clear Data option. I am not aware of any equivalent to this method on an iOS, except uninstalling and reinstalling the app.
  8. Open the Line app again and repeat steps 1-7 for any other mobile number you can get verification code on.
  9. Repeat steps 1-8 for 25 days (out of the 32 days, from July 15 to August 15) and get as many recharges as you want. You will need to fill in verification code for every phone number daily, so asking a relative or a friend for the code becomes a bit too much.

For Rooted Android Devices:

  1. Repeat steps 1-6 from the guide for unrooted Android device.
  2. Open the Titanium Backup Pro app. (It is indeed a handy app, if you are rooted. And is worth the price tag the pro version asks for.)
  3. Go to the Backup/Restore tab in Titanium Backup. Search for "Line" and tap the listing for Line in Titanium Backup. Press the Backup button now (present above the Run app option). Once the backup completes, tap the backup entry (the one with the options to Restore and Delete) and in the screen that appears, scroll down (if you need to, depends on your screen size) and select the Protect Backup option.
Note: In case you are wondering why we are protecting this backup, not protecting it will cause any other backup you add to overwrite the old one.
  4. Get to the Line backups screen by pressing the back button. Now, tap the Wipe Data option (which is equivalent to Clear Data option that we used in step 7 of the guide for unrooted devices). Wiping the data should only take a second. Press the Run App option from that screen itself, to launch the Line app. (Or you can always launch the app as usual.)
  5. Repeat the steps 1-6 (from the guide for unrooted devices) again for any other phone number. You can enter in a relative's number and ask him for the code he/she receives, as you only need to verify the number once in this method.
  6. Now repeat the steps 2-5 on this step to create a backup for this number.
  7. Repeat the above steps as many times as you want, for as many verification codes you can get on different numbers.
  8. On day 2, when you need to send a sticker again, open Titanium backup and restore one of the Line backups. Then hit the Run app button and send a sticker to any friend of yours.
  9. Get back to the Titanium Backup app and restore the second Line backup. Similarly, send stickers from all the numbers you have by restoring all the Line backups you've made.
  10. In case you're wondering, you need to make backup for a sim only on its day 1 i.e. when you register it with Line. This is because, we need the backups to skip the verification code that Line would've otherwise daily required for all the phone numbers you use. There is no need to take backup on further days of usage as we can already login using the number from the Line backup we have for it and all the other info (like how many days you've sent the stickers) is synced via the internet.

If you have any confusion on how this works, feel free to drop a comment. As should be visible from one of the screenshots I attached above, I am doing it with 13 numbers right now. It does take some effort to register a number initially, but on the subsequent days, it literally takes 2 minutes to send stickers from all the numbers. And I plan to add a few more phone numbers by calling my Mamas and Chachas. :P

This trick worked without ANY trouble at all when the Rs. 110 offer was ongoing. But this around, Line seems to throw an Invalid Number or Verification failed error sometimes, when I try to verify a new number. This error remedies itself after some time. I haven't found a way to circumvent it (yet). So your best right now is to wait for this error to disappear.
