How to get Android L keyboard on any device running Android 4.4 without rooting

Android L was introduced to developers in the recently Google I/O 2014 conference. Along with a lot of new features, many (if not most) stock apps have received a UI overhaul, including the stock Android keyboard. This year, Google has decided to make the latest version of Android available as a developer preview, before finally releasing it for usage as a daily driver.

From the developer preview, Shen Ye, an XDA TV Producer, has managed to pull out the apk of the stock keyboard in Android L. He has published the app on the Play Store, so installing it won't require any hackery on your end. To install the app, open up the Play Store and search for the term "Android L Keyboard", which should lead you to this app listing. (Or if you reading this on your Android device, clicking here will open the app page in the Play Store.)

Tap the Install button and once the app installs (weighs 19 MB), go to Settings > Language & Input, select the just installed keyboard from there and then set it as default input method to use it as your go-to keyboard app.

Sadly enough, none of my devices run on KitKat, so I won't be able to comment on the functioning of the application. The 4.6 star rating on the Play Store page of the app makes me believe that the app is worth a try, if you can't wait for the official release of the Android L for your device, which is at least a few months away, if your device manufacturer is generous enough.
