Samsung launches 'Neo' variants of Galaxy Note 3 (Rs. 41k), Galaxy Grand (Rs. 18k) and Galaxy Tab 3 Neo (Rs. 16.5k) in India

Samsung has added three new devices to its Android lineup. All the recent launches are Neo variants of present Samsung phones (or tablets). As is evident from the specs and pricing of these smartphones, these are cheaper alternatives to Samsung's present offerings. We had seen these devices getting launched outside India not so long back. We shall talk about these devices one by one, starting with the Galaxy Note 3 Neo.

Galaxy Note 3 Neo for Rs. 40,900

Just like other Neo smartphones from Samsung, Note 3 Neo features trimmed specs of the original Galaxy Note 3. We had seen this device getting launched internationally in the last week of January.
  • 5.5 inch 720p display
  • Hexa-core Exynos Processor with 2 cores at 1.7 GHz and 4 cores at 1.3 GHz clock speed
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 16 GB Internal memory with external sd card support
  • 8 MP Primary Camera, 2 MP Secondary Camera
  • Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with Samsung's TouchWiz UI
  • 3100 mAh battery
These trimmed down specs are not comparable to even Samsung Galaxy S4 which is selling for about Rs. 30k online. Galaxy Note 3, its big brother, is available for as low as Rs. 41,909.

Galaxy Tab 3 Neo for Rs. 16,490

Galaxy Tab 3 Neo is the lite/mini version of the original Galaxy Tab 3 tablet. Specifications of this new tablet from Samsung are as follows:
  • 7 inch screen with 1024x600 pixels
  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
  • 1.2 GHz dual core processor
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 8 GB Internal storage
  • 2 MP Primary Camera
  • 3600 mAh battery
On the software front, Tab 3 Neo will come with access to Club Samsung which is a collection of over 5000 movies and 400 thousand songs.

Galaxy Grand Neo at Rs. 18,500

Earlier, rumors had put this device to be priced at Rs. 19,000. Now, Samsung has officially launched the device for a price tag of Rs. 18,500. Read more about this post in its original launch story.

Conclusion: Samsung gone mad with the pricing?

Pricing of all these three devices are too high to be understandable even from a brand like Samsung. Seriously, will you waste Rs. 18000 on a 5 inch smartphone with resolution as low as 480x800? Even the original variants of these devices were priced comparatively sensibly. Given present Indian smartphone market, Samsung might be forced to implement a hefty price cut (like it did with Galaxy Gear) on all these new offerings sooner or later.
