We just saw the Note 3’s Faux Leather design being used in the Galaxy Note 3 Neo and Note 3 Neo LTE+, and Samsung seems determined to push the same design on to more of its phones as it announced new Black Editions of the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 Mini, both of which will inherit the Faxus leather back design from the Note 3.
Just like everyone else, we were strangled to death every time we saw a Samsung smartphone with the same old plastic and the same old boring design. There were even doubts over whether Samsung has a Designs department for their phones or not. Samsung experimented with the Faux leather back of the Galaxy Note 3 and it was much favorably received by everyone than any plasticky phone Samsung has launched in the recent times. Samsung hopes to bring its sales on track by riding on the Faux Leather design.
Nothing has changed on the specifications front as both the Black Edition S4 and S4 mini stick to the exact same specifications as we had seen in the original devices. The Galaxy S4 will feature the Snapdragon 600 processor, like we had seen in the US variant, instead of the Exynos Octa-core that was present in the international version.
These Black Edition devices will be available somewhere around March in Russia. The Black Edition S4 is priced at ~$660 while the S4 mini will go on sale for $460. Samsung has hushed on whether these variants will be launched in other countries. Samsung has reasons to decide either way. As S5 is almost here, it might be a bit reluctant on launching a new edition of the S4 instead of using all the hype on the S5. On the other hand, poor sales figure of the Galaxy S4 might force Samsung to go the other way around.
