Just now, Amazon has added support for about 195 countries with the latest App store v5 release. Till now, App Store had been exclusive to US, Canada and 5 other countries.
For a quick comparison, Apple supports 155 countries while Google supports 134 countries. Blackberry and WP8 fare somewhat better than Play Store and iOS app store with 171 and 180 countries respectively. So, that means of all major app markets out there, Amazon app store will now enjoy the largest maximum possible user base (because it can’t overtake Play Store and App Store in terms of user base, at least right now). All these countries, which include Australia, Brazil, Mexico and our beloved India, will get a true authentic source other than Play Store. Add to that the fact that Amazon App Store bring a paid app for free daily under the “Free App of the day” scheme.
The changelog of v5 of the app store includes:
If, unfortunately, Google Play Store doesn’t allow you to buy paid apps in your country, you can now legally buy any paid app you want (as long as they are available in the Play Store). If you are an app developer, it brings you the opportunity to showcase your app to the whole world, literally. And most people (including me) seem to love the “Free app of the Day” scheme too! Though it was possible to use App store in unsupported countries earlier too, with the help of VPNs and other tricks, but it would be less pain for everyone who used those tricks.
Let’s get to the part you are awaiting for, the installation part.
The installation is as simple as it gets. You must have enabled Unknown sources option in Settings > Security (if on Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean) or in Settings > Applications (if on Gingerbread or below). This option is required to enable installation of apps that are downloaded from outside of play store.
When you are done with the previous step, go to http://www.amazon.com/getappstore and download the apk of the App Store from there. When the download completes, tap on the file to install it on your phone. In case a pop up appears asking you whether you want to use Package Installer or verify and Install to open the file with, you are free to choose any of them, both would install it equally good.
